Welcome Back!

Welcome to Willow Class, we hope you all had an enjoyable holiday.

This term is an extremely busy one for your children.
In preparation for the Year 2 SATS tests in the week beginning 21st May 2018, the children will need to work hard to achieve targets in Maths and English (including handwriting, spelling and reading). Information and advice about the Year 2 SATS tests can be found on the following website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/key-stage-1-and-2-national-curriculum-tests-information-for-parents
If you have any concerns about your children, then please feel free to come infor a chat after school.

Reading Books

We will be continuing to send a library book home with your child every week as well as a guided reading book. Reading is extremely important and one of our school targets is to encourage your child to love reading. Please read with your child as often as possible and write a short comment in their reading record. Remember they can read books at their level online using Bug Club.

Attendance

Doors open at 8.50 am. Please make sure your child gets to school on time every day as it is difficult to make up work if it has been missed. If, however, your child is really ill then please keep them at home and let us know as soon as possible.

P.E.

All children need a P.E. kit clearly labelled with their name - this will help us to identify any clothing that gets lost.

Indoor P.E. on Tuesday am: kit is plain yellow or white t-shirt, navy blue or black P.E. shorts or leggings and black pumps.

Outdoor P.E. on Thursday pm: kit is blue or black tracksuit, yellow or white t-shirt and trainers.

P.E. kits can be left in school and taken home at halfterm to be washed.

For Health and Safety reasons, earrings must be removed on days when your child has P.E. Alternatively, your child can bring in plasters to cover the earrings.

Science

Science this term is linked to our topics. We will be exploring materials, plants and animals.

Computing

We will use ICT in order to support other subjects. We aim to teach all children to use the internet safely and would appreciate your support in making sure your child knows what they can or cannot look at on the internet/ video games.

Topic

Our topics for this term are ‘Towers, Turrets and Tunnels‘ and ‘Wriggle and Crawl’. The children will have the opportunity to take part in practical activities to design and make models of towering structures. In June, we have planned a visit by an expert in mini-beasts to link in with our ‘Wriggle and Crawl’ topic.

Religious Education

Birth ceremonies and wedding ceremonies.

Homework

Homework will be given out every Friday. Please support your child to complete homework neatly and bring it back to school each Monday. Please also encourage your child to practise Year 2 maths targets: number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables and related division facts (e.g. if 3x5=15 then 15÷5=3). Children need to be secure with these facts and be able to recall them rapidly.

Thank You for your continued support.

Class Teacher – Mrs Haughton
Support Staff – Miss Daniels, Miss Begum

We will be exploring our own qualities: 'Marvellous Me' and investigating our 'super senses' in Science.  Also, we will be learning about Superheroes (both fictional and non-fictional). During Black History Month in October we will be celebrating historical figures who have had a positive impact on social issues and equality.
