We hope that you have all had a lovely break.
Please spend quality time and listen to your child read. They need to practise reading aloud as often as possible so they will gain in confidence. Encourage them to sound out tricky words and to use picture clues wherever possible. Ask children to talk about book features, characters and main events of stories.
Please ensure that children take good care of school books and that they are not lost. If they are damaged or lost then unfortunately there will be a £5 charge.
In June, all year 1 children will participate in a phonics test. In order for a child to pass, they need to know all phase 3 and phase 5 sounds. They should be able to segment and blend words independently. Please help your child learn all sounds and to find them in their books. Practise tests will be given for homework.
Homework will be given out every Friday and needs to be completed neatly and brought back in for Monday. Please also encourage your child to practise Year 1 maths targets: these are number bonds to 10 and 20 also 2, 5 and 10 times tables. They need to be secure with these facts and be able to recall them rapidly.
Please also support your child to practise their handwriting and phonics as often as possible.
Homework will be given every Friday and will be collected on Monday. Please support your child at home but DO NOT write for them.
Homework is marked and monitored on a weekly basis so please ensure that your child completes it on time and at a high standard. Encourage your child to take care with their presentation. House points, stickers and certificates will be rewarded for quality homework.
Our creative topic is term is ‘Bounce’. We will be learning about different things that bounce. E.g. animals, objects etc.
We will continue to explore the Christian celebration of Easter. We will also be looking at what it means to be a Muslim and what it means to be a Christian.
Our Science topic this term is 'Materials'. We will be examining different materials and looking at the different properties they have.
We will be using ICT to support other subjects and the children will be taught to use the internet safely to do their own research and to use different programs to create labels, posters and other images for displays.
Please encourage your child to come to school every day unless they are ill.
School starts at 8:50am and finishes at 3:15pm. Please collect your child on time.
