Welcome Back Beech Class!

We hope you all had an enjoyable holiday.

There will be a parents meeting about the phonics test on Wednesday 9th May at 9 o’clock. All Year 1 parents are strongly advised to attend

Reading Books

Reading is extremely important and one of our school targets is to encourage your child to love reading. Please remember to send in reading books and book bags each day.

Please look after all school books that come home as there will be a charge of £5 for any lost / damaged books.

Attendance was an issue for some children last term. It is very important for your child to attend school as work missed cannot be repeated. However if your child is really ill, please keep them at home and let us know as soon as possible.
Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time. Doors open at 8.50 am.

Indoor P.E. will be on Tuesdays, whereas outdoor P.E. will be on Thursdays.

All children need an outdoor P.E kit. Children will need a blue or black tracksuit and trainers for outdoor P.E. Girls will need to remove earrings for P.E.

In maths we have been looking at different ways of measuring things. We have looked at how to measure length and weight. We have particularly enjoyed learning how to use and count money.

In Science this term, we will be learning about different parts and functions of a plant, lifecycles, and microhabitats.

We will be learning about algorithms (how computers are programmed) and writing our own simple  programmes for our friends to follow.

Religious Education

In R.E. we will be learning about Identity (Who am I?). We will also be learning facts about Islam.

Our topic this half term is Towers, Tunnels and turrets. During this topic we will be creating our own information leaflets about castles and exploring castles in England.

We will also be designing our own t towers and testing their strength

Homework will be given out every Friday and needs to be completed neatly and brought back in for Monday. Please continue to practise Year 2 targets. These are 2, 5 and 10 times tables and related inverse division facts (e.g. 2x5=10 and 5x2=10 so 10÷5=2 and 10÷2=5). They need to be secure with these facts and be able to recall them rapidly. Please feel free to teach your child other times tables as this will help them when they move to Year 3.

If you need any more information about how we can help you support your child, please ask.
